One Day Dental Implants

Unlike traditional implant procedures, which consist of multiple appointments spread out over several months, One Day Dental Implants are inserted into your jawbone and the dentures, bridges or crowns are placed immediately on the implant. As a result, you can begin enjoying a bright new smile right away and avoid an embarrassing period of time when your smile is negatively impacted by missing a tooth or multiple teeth. While you will be able to immediately start enjoying your smile, you will need to return at a later date to replace the temporary crown with your permanent one. Once the permanent crown has been placed, your procedure will officially be complete.

Am I a Candidate for One Day Dental Implants?

While there are many benefits to One Day Dental Implants, it is important to be aware that this treatment option may not be the best fit for every patient. For starters, in order to be considered a good candidate for One Day Dental Implants, your jaw will have to be healthy and have a sufficient quantity of mass. If your jawbone does not meet these qualifications, other implant options may be considered, as well as a dental bone graft to restore your jawbone to the appropriate density.

Another factor that will determine whether One Day Dental Implants are right for you is the current state of your oral and physical health. Patients who have gum disease or other oral health related issues will need to first address the underlying cause of these issues before One Day Dental Implants can be placed. Individuals with underlying health issues, such as osteoporosis, diabetes, or Paget’s disease are also not considered good candidates for One Day Dental Implants, as all of these issues hinder the osseointegration process, which significantly increases the likelihood of implant failure.

Your personal hygiene and lifestyle habits are also important considerations in determining whether One Day Dental Implants are right for you. If you do not take good care of your teeth on a regular basis, which includes brushing and flossing daily and scheduling regular dental exams every six months, or if you are a smoker, your risk of implant failure is much higher.

Post procedure and Aftercare Instructions

Try your best to get a good night’s sleep leading up to your procedure. If possible, try to avoid having to work or go to school following the procedure. You can eat a meal the night before, but try to avoid carbonated drinks and spicy foods. Once your procedure is complete, plan on resting as much as possible, and avoid physical activity. If antibiotics or pain medication is prescribed, take as directed. If you are a smoker, it is important that you avoid smoking for the next few days. A follow up appointment is typically scheduled one week after your procedure. During this procedure, your periodontist will examine your One Day Dental Implants to ensure everything looks correct. If you have been experiencing any issues or discomfort, be sure to share this information with them at this appointment.
