Laser Gum Surgery & Treatment Dallas Fort Worth

Laser gum surgery is an advanced treatment option that efficiently and painlessly treats gum disease through the use of a laser. One of the unique aspects of laser gum surgery is that the laser pinpoints and kills bacteria without damaging surrounding gum tissue. Unlike other treatment options, which involve cutting and suturing, patients who have laser gum surgery and treatment performed will have a much quicker healing process.

Laser gum surgery and treatment is most commonly used to clean the pockets of the teeth and encourage bone growth, but it can also be used with the following types of treatments:

  • Crown lengthening: Laser can be used to provide access to crowns that are in the gum
  • Biopsy: Laser can be used to remove the soft tissue which is then tested for cancer
  • Frenectomy: Laser can be used instead of or along with a scalpel to separate the frenulum or remove muscle tissue
  • Removal of tissue buildup which can develop due to tissue damage or following an operation
  • Achieve localized hemostasis

Laser Gum Surgery and Treatment Process

In order to determine if laser gum surgery and treatment is right for you, you will need to schedule an initial consultation, during which we will examine the overall health of your teeth, review your medical history, and determine what treatment options are best suited to your unique needs.

If laser gum surgery and treatment is determined to be the optimal treatment option for you, the procedure will begin with administration of light sedation if necessary, however many patients will not require sedation, as the procedure is painless. Once properly prepared, the laser will penetrate beneath the tissue surface and destroys any bacteria, plaque, or infected tissue. Once the infected tissue has been removed, your periodontist will use a cleaner to remove the calculus. Finally, the laser will seal the area surrounding the tooth, which also warm the stem cells, which in turn develops tissues that form around the root of the tooth.

This process ensures that tissue is not reduced and facilitates the formation of collagen, bone, and new connective tissue.

Each area that has been infected can typically be treated within 30-45 minutes, which means you will only require one visit to correct this issue.

Once this step is complete, you can begin enjoying your bright new healthy smile!

Aftercare for Laser Gum Surgery and Treatment

Following your laser gum surgery and treatment, it will be necessary to follow special aftercare instructions; however, to maximize the benefits and longevity of this procedure, it is critical to practice good oral hygiene habits, such as brushing your teeth twice daily and flossing at least once daily, ideally every time you brush your teeth. It is also important to practice proper brushing and flossing techniques. In addition to practicing consistent and proper oral selfcare, it is also important to schedule regular checkups every six months. By maintaining a consistent oral health care routine, you will significantly reduce your risk for developing additional periodontal issues and will continue enjoying a bright and healthy smile.

PERIODONTAL SERVICES

To determine if you have gum disease, your periodontist will measure the space between your teeth and gums. Patients who have pockets that are deeper than the average depth of three millimeters or less will be considered candidates for treating gum disease. Depending upon how severe your case is, your periodontist will suggest a follow up appointment, during which several different treatment options may be recommended.
