Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a safer, smaller, and quicker version of the conventional CAT scan. By utilizing an x-ray beam with a unique cone shape, it has become possible to obtain a three-dimensional image of the head and jaw in less time and with less radiation than a hospital-sized imaging machine.
In the dental office, the scanner’s size has been reduced significantly along with the dosage of radiation to make this type of imaging more accessible and more practical for our patients and for our staff. In fact, the CBCT scanner emits a level of radiation that is roughly 1/100 the dosage of a hospital scanner.
